Arlington Youth Exceed National Averages
For Certain Risk Taking Behaviors.
What Can The Community Do?
Every three years the Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families surveys Arlington youth about risk behaviors. The surveys include questions about alcohol and drug use, sexual activity, criminal behavior, and many other behaviors.
How are Arlington youth doing? While there has been progress in reducing some risk behaviors since 2001, all of the risk behavior numbers are higher than we would like. In some the numbers have remained flat, while in others we even exceed the national average and the numbers continue to worsen. Learn more about risk behaviors in Arlington, what is being done in the community — both prevention and intervention, and what the Arlington community can do to help youth develop the Strengths/Assets they need to avoid these risk behaviors.
The Youth of Arlington are the future of Arlington. We owe it to them to do whatever it takes to give them the skills they need and an environment that is as safe as possible. Make it a point to come and hear what YOU can do to make this situation better.
In our annual field trip, we will be visiting the new Washington-Lee High School. Here’s what’s included: a student-led tour of this new facility; dinner catered by Moby Dick House of Kabob; and a program in which we will hear about risk taking behaviors in Arlington’s youth and what we can do to address the situation. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria.
